Who should be the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal Secondary Athlete of the Week?

The spring season is in full swing as golf, baseball and softball athletes are among the finalists for the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Athlete of the Week.

LAST WEEK: Abernathy’s Sydnei Caro and Tanner Timms voted Athletes of the Week

The AJ takes weekly nominations through noon Sunday and will release its list of finalists for High School Athlete of the Week. Voting will open at 6 a.m. Monday.

EDITOR’S NOTE

► Coaching teams can nominate a player for next week’s award by sending an email, subject “AOTW Nominee”, to [email protected] by Sunday morning.

► In your e-mail, include: the candidate with the classification and the relevant statistics of the matches/results of this week before noon Sunday to be eligible.

► The poll will close at noon Thursday and winners will be announced Friday each week.

Avery Blount, Father, Paducah – Won the disc in the Region I-1A meet to qualify for the state.

Sofia De Groot, Jr., Lubbock-Cooper – Finished second in the triple jump at the I-5A Region Meet to qualify for state.

Shelby Roberts, Jr., Shallowwater – Placed second in the high jump at the I-3A Region meet to qualify for state.

male athletes

Trak Crow, father, post – Hit 6 for 7 with two doubles, three triples and six RBIs in a pair of wins over Olton.

Steven Runels, Sr., Monterey – Won the high jump in the I-5A Region meet at 6-10.

Daniel Sianez, So., Muleshoe – Won the 400-meter sprint in the Region I-3A meet at 49:40.
