RFH appoints Stephen Sarles as new director

Mr. Stephen Sarles has assumed the role of new Principal of Rumson Fair Haven Regional High School.

Stephen Sarles, approved by the school board in May, officially began his role as the next principal of Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School. In taking on this new position, Sarles will draw on his 28 years of teaching experience, more than 11 of which spent at RFH.

Sarles, who holds a master’s degree in classical archeology and a bachelor’s degree in Latin and classical archaeology, began his teaching career at the university level before becoming a shared Latin teacher at RFH and Red Bank Regional in 1998. He spent the next 12 years as a professor of Latin and Advanced Level Art History at RBR, where he was honored as Professor of the Year in 2005 and became the first Baccalaureate Coordinator school international. From there, Sarles moved into administration assuming the role of World Cultures Supervisor in the Ocean Township School District and oversaw the World Languages ​​Department from grades 1 through 12.e grades and the Department of Social Studies from sixth to twelfthe the notes. In December 2013, Sarles became deputy director of RFH, a position he held until now. Sarles has been a Monmouth County resident for 24 years and currently resides in Oceanport with his wife and three sons.

Sarles’ nomination concludes a primary search process that began with Kevin Pfister’s notification of his resignation last spring. After reviewing dozens of applications, a comprehensive multi-step interview process took place and he clearly stood out.

Sarles shared: “I am delighted to continue to grow and make an impact here at RFH, a school that really has the best kids. They look out for each other, they have fun together and they love to learn. The sense of community here at RFH is unlike any other, and I look forward to continuing to foster it in the years to come.

Sarles’ previous role as assistant manager will be filled by Meredith Brow. Brow will join RFH from the Brick Township public school system, where she served as a high school vice-principal and elementary school principal. Her previous teaching experience was in fine art, graphic design and digital photography.
