Canadian actress Crystal Lowe sat down and chatted during RomaDrama Live!, which took place in West Palm Beach, Florida from June 24-26.
“It’s amazing to be in RomaDrama, to be honest,” Lowe said. “You never know what to expect when you go to conventions and what it’s going to be like. RomaDrama fans are simply the cutest. My ‘POstables’ are top notch. I received handmade socks and gifts from them. I’m more than spoiled and loved constantly, so it’s been really nice.
Lowe is known for her leading role in the “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” series on Hallmark, where she plays Rita Haywith. “Rita is super sweet and kind. She always sees the best in people, but she has a quirky and funny side. She loves to play and she will fight to the death to protect her friends,” she said with a soft laugh.
“Rita is also very spontaneous and I love that about her,” she added.
Lowe is also a former Scream Queen. “I died in so many different ways that my mum would ask me every time I booked a horror movie ‘how are you going to die this time?’ It’s my goal in life to live to the end, and that’s what’s great about Hallmark,” she admitted of the horror movies she’s made.
The digital age
On being an actress in the digital age, she said, “I think it’s great, to be honest. I also lead. As a director, it’s really amazing. You can shoot a movie on an iPhone. The technology lately is amazing, the cinematic mode is beautiful. We need content and we need to empathize with each other, and we need to understand each other. Now is the time to share experiences and life stories with digital platforms.
She shared that she was in the process of putting together her own movie titled “Afterglow.” “It’s about a former adult movie star who doesn’t want to do this anymore but nobody wants to hire her because she was in the industry. She’s got a daughter and she’s fighting. It’s about to control your own narrative, whatever it is, and take your power back. It’s a great little story and I wrote a pilot attached to it,” she said.
On the title of the current chapter of his life, Lowe said: “Embracing Transitions”.
Lowe named Viola Davis, Issa Rae and Oscar winner Mindy Kaling as his dream acting partners in life.
For Lowe, the word success means “a step forward”. “I don’t need to go 50,000 feet. Keep going and eventually you’ll stop and look back and notice how far you’ve come. That way you can enjoy it as you go,” she explained.
