Letter to the editor: Portrait of a learner

Hello members of the Rangeley community,

We actively engage stakeholders across the district in developing a Learner Profile, a collective vision that articulates our community’s aspirations for every student at Rangeley Lakes Regional School. Our portrait of a learner will serve as a North Star for our schools, uniting our district around a common vision.

You are a valued member of our community, and we need your voice and your perspective. We invite you to join our Portrait Design Team, a group of people who will share ongoing feedback and together inform our Portrait of a Learner.

Over the next few months, the portrait design team will explore the following questions:

● What are the hopes, dreams and aspirations that our neighborhood actors have for our young people?

● What skills and mindsets do our children need to succeed in this complex and rapidly changing world?

● What are the implications for the design of the learning experiences—and equitable access to those experiences—that we provide in our school systems?

Save these dates! Our portrait design team will meet four times to design a graduate’s portrait, and each meeting builds on the next.

● Meeting 1: Wednesday October 12, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. – RLRS cafeteria

● Meeting 2: Wednesday October 26, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. – RLRS cafeteria

● Meeting 3: Wednesday, December 7, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. – RLRS cafeteria

● Meeting 4: Wednesday January 11, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. – RLRS cafeteria

We want our Learner Profile to be developed locally and positioned globally. We hope you will bring your unique perspective to this collaborative process. Our common aspiration is that all of our students have an educational experience that prepares them to be lifelong learners and contributors today and tomorrow.

Do you want to join our portrait design team? Please reply to let me know at [email protected] if you can help direct this exciting work. And don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns.

Respectfully,

Seth Laliberte
