Journal class

“Journey to a Journal” to be explored in the LCM class

Have you ever wanted to learn how to create a journal from start to finish? “Journey to a Journal” is an 8-week course for people aged 55 and over during the months of May and June 2022. The first course starts on May 3. The class will take place at the Lost City Museum on Tuesday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The course is limited to 10 people only, so those interested are invited to call the museum to register quickly.
“Thanks to the generosity of the Nevada Arts Council and the Federal Endowment for the Arts, we are able to offer a fun and creative project-based course with the goal of inspiring creative living in aging adults,” said Mary Beth. Timm from Lost City. Museum

Artist and author Jana Ward will teach this 8-week course. Participants will learn how to make paper, design signatures (book pieces), and bind pages into a custom cover. The final product can be used as a journal, cookbook, art book, or in many ways.

This 8-week course will end with a final event on July 19. The Lost City Museum will host an afternoon tea with attendees talking about their completed journals.

“I am excited about this course because I believe creativity adds a positive aspect to life,” said Jana Ward. “Science says that creative activities boost problem-solving skills. I chose journal writing (from papermaking to book design and structure) for this course because of the great interest in genealogy and family history in our community. The class will help participants walk away with a self-made book as well as the skill to create Volume #2.

The Lost City Museum is open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday at 721 S. Moapa Valley Blvd., Overton. Admission is $6, children 17 and under and members enter free.
