It’s more than a school catering app – Pine and Lakes Echo Journal

PEQUOT LAKES — Since the pandemic began, the Pequot Lakes School District has proudly served free breakfast and lunch to all students with federal funding, regardless of family income.

As of this writing, the US Department of Agriculture has not extended free meal waivers. Beginning with the start of the 2022-23 school year, the Pequot Lakes School District will return to free, reduced price, or full price meals.

The district is asking all families to submit a school lunch request now to ensure that all students have continued access to nutritious meals.

School lunch apps are used for more than just certifying students for free or discounted meals. Completing an application can help you and the school in several ways:

  • It can provide additional funding for state and federal programs and services at school.
  • This may result in free or reduced activity fees.
  • It can allow families to benefit from reduced rates on home Internet service.
  • It may allow families to benefit from reduced registration fees for the AP, SAT and/or ACT tests.
  • It can allow families to benefit from reduced rates associated with college admissions.

Every eligible form counts and adds valuable resources to the school district. Submitting a school meal request helps ensure that all students and their families can access these key benefits.

How to apply, you ask? It’s easy!

Applications and instructions on how to complete the form are mailed to each household on August 1 of each year. Watch for it in your mailbox.

Forms are also available on the school district’s website at www.isd186.org under “Departments-Food Services.”

Completing an application takes less than 10 minutes and only one application needs to be completed per family. Applications are completely confidential and will not be shared outside of the school district office.

Only the last four digits of a Social Security number are required. Since a family’s financial situation can change from year to year, they must complete a new application each school year.

Thank you for taking the time to submit your application.
