Auditions/registrations scheduled for Under a Yellow Star

NORWAY – Registration/auditions are scheduled for Monday, June 20 and Wednesday, June 22 at 6 p.m. in the auditorium of Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School for the play Under a Yellow Star – Diaries of Children of the Holocaust. There are about 30 roles for 8-year-olds in high school and a few adults.

This piece was cast and ready to play in 2020 when COVID-19 shut it down. Actors who were already in the play are invited to return. There will, however, be a few openings (it’s unclear how many) for young people to fill the roles of former cast members who can no longer participate.

Rehearsals will take place Wednesdays and Fridays from 6-8 p.m. at the high school throughout the summer with public performances scheduled for October 21-23. This is a peer education play and will also be presented to students in October or November during the school day.

Anyone in the Bethel and Oxford Hills area can enroll, including home-schooled students. The only requirement is the ability to read and the willingness to memorize the game, attend rehearsals and all performances. Parents are encouraged to help or play!

This production is sponsored by SAD-17, with grants from the Maine Humanities Council and Norway Savings Bank, and donations from the Rotary Club of Oxford Hills, Sun Media Group and individuals.
